BumpChat Acquired by BUMP.com!!

BUMP.COM BOLSTERS LOCATION-BASED COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES

WITH ACQUISITION AND RE-LAUNCH OF BUMPCHAT

BUMP.com announced today that it has acquired BumpChat, a communication application that enables chat functionality for users within the radius of a specified location. The application will be re-launching in June.

BumpChat, formerly purposed as a location-based communication, file sharing and dating application, is compatible with iPhone and iPod touch devices. Its 60,000 registered users have successfully sent more than 2 million messages. BUMP.com will be migrating the BumpChat technology to the Android platform as well.

The BumpChat purchase marks BUMP.com’s fourth product and technology acquisition. In the past 12 months, BUMP.com has acquired license plate messaging platforms Platester, YourPlates and Plateside. BUMP.com, recently backed with $2.2MM in funding, is currently raising its Series B round.

“The acquisition is based on our vision of creating an open communications grid where BUMP.com users can pull into the parking lot of any mall in America and instantly receive specifically targeted coupons, discounts and benefits,” explains Mitch Thrower, BUMP.com Founder and CEO. “These users will also have the ability to communicate and share with one another based on multiple criteria, such as mutual interests, current location and vehicle type.”

BUMP.com provides a social platform for license plate messaging and location-based communication and couponing. It is evolving into a powerful vehicle for retailers offering relevant, targeted benefits to customers in close proximity to a point of purchase.
